Tricks to pack fragile items for shipping

If you are changing home or relocating, you will have many fragile items that will need to be packed properly, so that they don’t break during the move. While you can depend on moving companies to do the packing properly, sometimes, you may be more comfortable packing at least the delicate items on your own.

Supplies
Thankfully, there is a simple and straightforward process involved in packing fragile items. However, it is necessary that you have the right supplies handy. For packing, you will require the following:
· A sturdy carton
· Adhesive tape
· Reinforced tape
· Paper for wrapping
· Bubble wrap packaging
· Foam peanuts

The Packaging Process
The process to pack may differ based on the size and shape of the item, but the approach essentially remains the same.

Take the fragile item and gently wrap it in one layer of paper. You can use old newspaper for it. Then, stick the paper with adhesive tape. Over this, now add multiple layers of bubble wrap packaging to provide adequate cushioning. Similarly, pack each item using old newspaper and bubble wrap.

After you finish wrapping all the items, it is time to prep the carton. Place multiple sheets of newspaper at the bottom of the carton to form a cushion. Now, place each wrapped item into the carton. Remember to place heavier items below and lighter ones on top. There will be spaces that you will have to fill. Otherwise, the items will move and break during the move. Use foam peanuts to fill the spaces. Ensure that you add sufficient peanuts to tightly pack the extra space between the items.

Use reinforced tape to seal the carton. Give it a gentle shake to check if the items move inside the carton. If yes, reopen the carton and add more foam peanuts and reseal the box. Thereafter, strengthen the carton by adding more strips of reinforced tape to the openings and sides.

If you think your fragile items require more protection besides the bubble wrap and peanut foam, use two-box packing. Here, you will have to place the sealed carton into a large box and then fill the gaps between the two boxes with foam peanuts.
